Atlantic/US East Coat Passage St Maarten to Newport, Rhode Island
|
| 1400-1500 miles - 9-12 days |
|
Our Atlantic / East Coast passage starts in Antigua and makes a short stopover in St Maarten before heading north to Newport. You would join the boat in St Maarten, but we have the possibility for you to join in Antigua on the 2nd of May if you would prefer. The total distance is about 1400-1500 nautical miles.
This passage is an excellent way to gain ocean experience, build miles and take your own sailing to another level. It also provides you with a great opportunity to be part of a sailing team.

Star Chaser will spend a couple of days in St Maarten after Antigua Sailing Week, to change the boat back to ocean crossing mode and do our provisioning for the passage. We will then start our trip North somewehere between the 8th and 14th of May.
After leaving the Caribbean we will route our way depending on the weather systems, which never seem to be the same. We might head in a northerly direction first or go straight on a rhumb line (slightly West of North), trying to get into the gulfstream as soon as possible. The trip is about 1500nm and we expect to be at sea for about 9 to 12 days. We can encounter all kinds of weather could be sailing with the wind both forward and aft of the beam. Hopefully we will have some fantastic beam reaching and we might be able to pop up our asymmetrical spinnaker!
Newport is the sailing mecca of the US East Coast and you will see a lot of famous boats and buildings around, including the renowned Newport base of the New York Yacht Club and the IYAC bar, which has just been voted 3rd best Sailor’s bar!
