The Newport – Bermuda Race is amongst the ’must-do‘ ocean races in the world, together with Sydney-Hobart and Fastnet, and this is your chance to join it on Star Chaser, our Swan 51, the perfect yacht for offshore racing.
The biennial Newport Bermuda Race is a 635-mile ocean race, most of it out of sight of land, usually lasting three to five days. It crosses a stretch of the Atlantic Ocean known for challenging weather, especially in the Gulf Stream, where there are strong currents.
|
|
Every two years in mid-June, over 180 boats start from the Mecca of American yachting, Newport, Rhode Island. The fleet has five divisions to allow seaworthy boats of many sizes and types to be raced fairly and aggressively for an array of trophies awarded in Bermuda at an elegant ceremony at Government House, the residence of the governor of this tropical island.

Your Racing Program
You will be joining the boat on Monday 14 June to familiarise yourself with Star Chaser. We will then have 1 or 2 training days so you can start to work as a team on the boat, get to know the boat and practice the all important racing manoeuvres. The race is very focused on safety and there is generally a chance to do your sea survival course just before the start if you would want to.
Depending on the level of experience and everybody’s talents we will determine race positions and sail combinations.
The race start is on Friday 18 June and depending on the weather, we expect the race to take between 3 to 5 days.
Upon arrival in Bermuda there will be some great Island partying to be had and the Bermudans sure know how to welcome ocean racing crews!
