Trans-Atlantic
Bermuda - Azores - Europe
4000 miles - 4-6 weeks

Our Atlantic crossing starts in Bermuda and makes a stopover in the Azores before heading back to Europe. The total distance is about 2900 nautical miles until Gibraltar, approximately 3350nm to Barcelona.

This crossing is an excellent way to gain ocean experience, build miles and take your own sailing to another level. It also provides you with a great opportunity to be part of a sailing team.

The trip is divided in two/three legs, so you can decide: join us for the whole trip or just one or two of the three legs.

Leg 1 - BERMUDA – AZORES
12 to 16 days at sea - Start between 27 - 30 June - Approx 1800nm

Star Chaser will leave Bermuda between the 27th and the 30th of June, just after the Newport – Bermuda Race. The exact leaving date will depend on the arrival date in Bermuda and the weather forecast. We will turn the boat back into ocean crossing mode, rather than ocean racing mode (gets all a bit more comfortable) and get our fresh provisioning in before the start of our Atlantic crossing.

After leaving Bermuda we will route our way depending on the weather systems, which never seem to be the same. We will head in an easterly direction, trying to sail the rhumb line to the Azores. The trip is about 1800nm and we expect to be at sea for about 12 to 15 days. This passage has it all. We can encounter all kinds of weather and could be sailing with the wind both forward and aft of the beam. There is bound to be some fantastic beam reaching and we might be able to pop up our asymmetrical spinnaker or the screamer!

Normally there is a great variety of wildlife around, including whales, dolphins, Portuguese Man of War, lots of different birds and occasionally a moonfish or a turtle.

We will spend 2 to 3 days in Horta, on the main island of the Azores, enjoying the island and replenishing our fresh foods. It is a beautiful setting, with plenty of great things to do, like visiting the inside of a volcano or whale and dolphin spotting.

Leg 2 - AZORES – GIBRALTAR
7 to 9 days at sea – Start between 12 – 16 July - Approx 1100nm

After our stopover in the Azores, we will head out east into the Atlantic Ocean for the second leg of our voyage. Weather in this part of the world can be changeable even during the summer months so you can expect an exciting ride home. It is a passage of about 1100nm and we expect to be at sea for about 7 – 9 days.

Seeing the coast of Portugal is a very special experience as it means we’ve almost finished our trip. To cross the best part of an ocean on one of its more challenging routes is a formidable achievement. Arriving might be a bit sad maybe, but you will without a doubt be tremendously happy about fulfilling your dream. You will take away with you not only some fantastic memories and friends but also a sense of great achievement.

Leg 3 - GIBRALTAR – PALMA DE MALLORCA
2 to 4 days at sea – Start between 22 – 27 July (weather dependant) - Approx 450nm

From Gibraltar we will be heading east into the Mediterranean Sea. We will mostly be hugging the coast, occasionally going a bit further offshore for weather reasons.

This being the Mediterranean, the weather can throw anything at us, from big Mistral winds to hardly any wind at all, but also some great sailing conditions with a good breeze and sunshine all around.

It is a fairly short trip that we expect to take about 2 to 4 days.

Don't wait, go and fulfil your dream of crossing the Atlantic now!
